DESCRIPTION

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac support nearly 80 percent of the residential market during the pandemic, providing forbearance, underwriting, and purchasing mortgages that enter forbearance early. Yet, the future of the GSEs remains at the forefront of industry discussions as concerns regarding mortgage market stability continue to mount in Washington.

Since first unveiling its proposal to transition Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into private mortgage market utilities in 2019, the National Association of REALTORS® has continued to refine its vision and approach on how to best achieve these changes. The January 14th event will showcase new research that answers critical questions about how Fannie and Freddie should make this transition, including how to attract investors, minimize taxpayer risk, and keep costs down while maximizing access to credit.

Registration information and other details will be released in the coming weeks, along with a list of speakers who will break down the latest regulatory actions, potential legislative moves, and how the industry is coalescing around a vision for housing finance reform.

Stay tuned to www.nar.realtor/gsevision for additional details early next year.
